Job Description

The RN team leader is accountable to his/her area of specialty for planning, organizing, directing and controlling activities concerning his /her specific service. The RN team leader maintains standards of quality patient care on the assigned unit in an effective and efficient manner for the adolescent (ages 12-18), adult (ages 19-65), and geriatric (ages 66 and over) patient. Through the assessment of patient needs, the RN team leader assigns duties, coordinates work efforts, promotes communication, maintains harmonious relationships among staff and promotes a safe, comfortable atmosphere for patients in cooperation with the appropriate departmental supervisor.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates resources to ensure necessary equipment and supply inventory is maintained and procured for the specific services (Physician, vendors, blood bank, sterile supply)
  • Reviews weekly and daily schedules for case preparation
  • Uses problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members
  • Demonstrates ability to set priorities in the delegation of quality patient care
  • Assists the charge RN/Manager/Director with appropriate input concerning staff performance around specific issues and communicates situations and activities which may have impact on the smooth operation of the department

Other Functions

  • Participates in Quality Improvement efforts for evaluation of patient care and outcomes
  • Responds to reported changes in the patients’ behavioral and physiological status by evaluating and taking appropriate action, reports such changes to appropriate people and documents accurately
  • Responds immediately and appropriately to all patient emergencies
  • Accountability for maintaining and improving knowledge and skill level including required competencies
  • Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
  • Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education

Additional Job Description:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program (required)
  • All new-hire Associate Degree Registered Nurses, new graduate and experienced, are required to start an approved BSN program within one year of hire and complete an approved BSN program within three years of hire (if applicable to facility)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program (preferred)

Experience

  • Two (2) years perioperative services experience (required)

Licensure

  • Active Kentucky Registered Nurse License or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky (required)

Certification

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required)
  • Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification (required)
